About Cooking Brilliant
Cooking Brilliant answers the small questions that stop you mid-recipe. How much is a cup of flour in grams? What's gas mark 6? How do I make this serve seven instead of four? You get the answer in the first line, then the detail if you want it. No recipes and no life stories.
It's built in the UK by Andy Wood. UK measures come first, with American cups and Australian spoons alongside, because half the recipes people cook from in Britain are American.
Where the numbers come from
Ingredient weights come from USDA FoodData Central, the US government's food composition database. It's public domain and it measures real cupfuls and spoonfuls of real ingredients. Oven temperatures come from Which?. The sources page lists every ingredient with its USDA record number, so you can check any figure yourself.
When we work something out instead of reading it straight from a source (half a cup is half the cup weight, a metric cup is a US cup scaled up to 250ml) the page says so.
